History

In August 1991, Cherry Ray, a yoga teacher trained through the International Yoga Teachers Association, was encouraged, with others, to hold a yoga day.

There, interested people were invited to join with her in forming a group to promote yoga.  By the end of the day there were 25 enthusiastic, paid up members.

This was the birth of Friends in Yoga (FinY) Inc. As time went by, our membership grew and the need was felt to become an incorporated body, which it did in 1995. Now, with over 200 members, FinY comprises a group of men and women from all walks of life.

We strive to ‘spread the word’, and to share with as many people as possible the benefits of yoga.

We organise yoga days, weekend retreats and social events in the metropolitan area  and in the country.  Our aim is to promote yoga in its many forms, in ways which are acceptable to the majority.

If you decide to join Friends in Yoga you will be among like minded people who attend  classes all over the metropolitan and country areas.

Your membership fee goes towards our informative bi-monthly Newsletter, in which we try to embrace all things relevant to yoga and the yogic way of life.

The subsidising of many yoga days, weekend retreats and social events enables us to keep our fees low.
